You know the post office's motto:
"Rain or shine, snow or sleet, spherical or orthogonal, we deliver your mail!"

I had a spontaneous urge to make a spherical box in which to ship a gift to a friend. I drew a sphere in CAD and split it into equal layers of the thickness of the cardboard I had, then with calipers, a protractor, a carpet knife, scissors and glue, I proceeded to construct. It is 56 layers in total and 9.4 inches in diameter. The center discs have a square cut out in them to make a hollow for the package contents. Total construction time was about 4 hours.

That's hilarious...and cool! Did the post office live up to their end?
Yea, they shipped it alright. I was worried that the labels were going to fall off during transit but it made it to its destination. My friend said that it was tricky to open and that he probably looked like a monkey trying to crack a coconut. It's a packaging system with built in humility!
