Lee posted it originally, Dan's kinda excited about it, let's make it happen. It's great interactive tech for kids and adults alike! One of a few places the code is available.

Here's another fun application you could do on similar hardware. This uses mirrors and a laser diode, but a projector would work just as well (or better for simulating multiple objects).

What do you guys think? It's basically a projector, a kinect, and a sandbox. Plenty of free libraries for the Unity Game Engine that could tie the two together for custom applications, too, so SpokaneCREATE members wouldn't have to stick with just what's out there. We could play with it and grow it if wanted. Just seems like it'd be a big draw for people, get kids interested in tech, and be another great connection point between real and virtual processing. Pretty sure we can pull together a working projector from the three at the space. The only hard part would be the sand table because at 4" deep the sand would be 100 pounds per 3 sqft which means a 3'x3' table would weight 300 pounds. Making that mobile would get tricky fast but nothing is beyond you bunch.
Those both look like amazing projects.

I imagine there is some visual processing involved for the laser diode...that would be fun to learn!
We made some great progress on this last night, thanks to Lee!

We now have the sand box made and filled with sand, and last night after some xbox kinect troubles (make sure you actually have 12V coming from the PSU) We were able to do a quick test with it against the wall.

Next week we should be able to build the gantry to hold the projector and Kinect over the sand box and start playing with it.
This is a really cool idea and love the interactive factor of it. I don't know if anyone has heard of the Terrain event on First Friday, sort of an art, music and tech show held a couple times a year. This would be a great way to show off what we are about and get the word out at a big event. Here's the link:
