RE: Aluminum Forge - IdeaMakers - 02-03-2015 Been awhile but wanted to say congrats on the new digs, I'll stop in and check it out. Here's a link to a local foundry maker who also sales supplies like crucibles, sand and casting boxes: http://www.foundry101.com/ Cool project, I've been wanting to make one of these for some time. Let me know when you have the burner up and running, I have a few things to tinker with. Like the info about the K bond sand also. John RE: Aluminum Forge - n8cutler - 02-04-2015 Great to hear from you, John! Yes, stop in and see the new space. Thanks for the link. We'll give you a shout when it's up and running. RE: Aluminum Forge - IdeaMakers - 04-28-2015 Argh, the K Bond casting mixture calls for to many unavailable or not off the shelf ingredients. Found a product called Delft Clay that jewelers use for casting, very fine clay with high detail cast that will be much easier to source then others. Here's a link with video instructions: http://www.riogrande.com/Product/Delft-Clay-Casting-System/705136?Pos=3 Found it on FleaBay for $2.50 a pound, be about a week to get here. Patience Grasshopper!!!! John RE: Aluminum Forge - n8cutler - 04-28-2015 Looks like it has pretty good reviews, and reusable. Good find! |
