Laser progress
Well who says we can't have a little fun on Saturdays. We finally made progress with the laser cutter by actually engraving on wood.

Sorry for the bad cell video but it is progress. Still have a few things to work out with the software chain, air assist and using Linux for control but after months of work it nice to see it smoking.

Hey Arthur, yes it is finally coming along. Once I figured out the LinuxCNC was the hard way, we changed over to what you have with Aruindo, GSheild and GRBL. A much easier solution and with a plugin through Inkscape to do the gcode it is working well, Any suggestions on a gcode sender? Using UGS mainly and Bcnc in the works but wonder if there is anything else out there, especially easy for the Linux box control.

RE: Laser progress
Which Inkscape plugin are you using? I've not found one that works cleanly. And are you running the laser off of the spindle control?

I run mine off of my Windows laptop, so no idea for the Linux interfaces but I use:
gcodesender works well for quick manual debugging with a very light weight UI
GrblPanel is nice for running jobs with a more fleshed-out UI with controls for jogging

RE: Laser progress
I'll checkout GrblPanel, using the Universal Gcode Sender with Win7 now but would like a little more on the visual side.

Here's the link for the InkScape plugin:
