Placeholder for possible car project
I am thinking about building an extremely efficient, super lightweight fully electric car. This will be the placeholder for the legal mumbo jumbo and concept/actual build pics. This may never happen, or it might turn out juuust as I want, but until that day, here's the ideas.

solid streamline sheet metal top
steel base frame with suspension
motorcycle tyres - 5kw hub on each 10kw pk

accelerator, possibly might use a car pedal to pass inspection modified with a hall sensor
standard motorcycle disc brakes
standard shocks- car or moto
steering.... solid connecting rods to the wheels with optional parking assist mode- electric control of each individual powered wheel allowing tank drive
under 1k lbs - pref 500 lbs
all required lights and whatnot that require dot approval will be scrap yard pulls
please excuse the crudity of the drawing, I'm not an artist... it'll look way better when it's done
solar????

Sounds like it could be an awesome project. Some ideas though:
  • Steel frame and sheet metal body are really heavy, which makes efficiency difficult. Fiberglass is lightweight and still cheapish if you mold your own.
  • Motorcycle tires are going to make it very unstable to drive. They will pull hard with any change in chamber or lips/edges on the road. I would look toward classic VW hubs/tires (or similar) instead; they're cheaper.
  • All-wheel swing arms will be complex, but awesome.

I have a 72 volt controller, and motor I can donate if you think you can use it. I converted a GEO to electric and then scrapped the idea but kept the gooey center.

Possibly. What are the specs? This one has been sidelined for other bigger projects right now, but I do know a couple people who might need a controller like that. Might use it in trade on my motorcycle....
