Tesla Coil
I've always wanted to build a massive spark generator. I have copper tubing, enamel, pvc pipe and a spark gap. I can get microwave capacitors and I have a couple now, but I need the wire. If anyone can help with the wire, base, and top load we could have a coil up and running. Any ideas/funds/bits are welcome.

RE: Tesla Coil
Have any motors or transformers to tear apart? Plenty of good wiring in those if you're willing to strip it.

RE: Tesla Coil
Hmm, can't epoxy or silicone dip the splices to prevent that? Or will the high point still cause it to arc through?

I brought in a 15000v 60ma neon transformer for someone to use
Your welcome to it, and I can get more. The 60ma is the largest secondary current available for neon, it throws a pretty hefty arc 2-3". How powerful were you planning on making it? |

Something around 1.5MV? THAT would throw an arc. Nice eerie coronal glow too. If not, at a minimum a neon transformer would make an awesome input because then your tower really only needs a 1:15 ratio to get into the right voltage range. 4 primary turns and 60 secondaries is a lot less copper than having to wind a secondary to 2000 turns. 20kV 600-ish pF ceramic caps are cheap on eBay. |
